About the event

A beginner workshop into embracing silliness, kitsch, and crafts into your life inspired by the ridiculousness of Sam Reece's "Shitty Craft Club". Serving as both an opportunity to meet fellows crafters, embrace new mediums, and add whimsy into your home.

This workshop includes creating felt vase/bottle covers adorned with beads, fabric, embroidery, paint, rhinestones – whatever your heart desires! Beginner friendly and open to all levels of expertise you can make these vase/bottle covers as simple or complex as you’d like.

As a certified hot glue queen there will be options to use that or if sewing is more your thing basic embroidery thread and needles will be provided. Felt can be easily cut into any shape for whatever look you’re going for – from abstract flower vases to face shaped bottle covers, once assembled the real fun begins!

Decorate your felt with an array of craft materials, mediums, and fabrics to create something that brings you joy when you look at it. It's less about the finished product and more about the process of engaging with child-like fun and creation – you’re never too old to start crafting!

Sarah Almquist is a graduate from the Visual Studies program at the University of Calgary. Through exploring topics of pop culture, gender expression, and textile history, her soft sculptures often blur the lines between humor and theory. Advocating for not taking herself too seriously, she embraces laughter, silly puns, and playful qualities of materials and form into all her work. Currently, Sarah is based out of Calgary, Alberta (Moh’kinstsis, Treaty 7 Territory) where she recently started a social craft club inspired by her cat Morti and her approach to life – embracing sun beams, finding time to rest, and making sure to play every single day.
